It’s official - you are an OutRoamer Expert!

Before you dive in and start dazzling us with your wisdom, please take a moment to read the rules below,  because even experts need a little guidance before roaming free.

This group exists to inspire, educate, and celebrate the beauty of nature. We know there are countless OutRoamers out there. People who love the wild as much as we do but don’t always have the time or resources to expand their bush knowledge. Life moves quickly, yet discovering even one new nature fact each day can brighten the spirit.

That’s why OutRoamer was created: to build a fun, accessible, and engaging community where we can all grow our understanding of the natural world. Through interactive games, fascinating facts, and shared stories, we nurture a thriving love for the wild.

This is not a space for vanity posting or perfect pictures, unless those photos are paired with insights, stories, or questions that educate and inspire.

As with the bush, even the most fun and inspiring environments need rules. Please read these carefully and confirm your acceptance by accepting at the bottom of the page.

Group Rules

Educational purpose only

Share photos, observations, or questions about Southern African wildlife, but make it educational! A photo alone isn’t enough. For example, a picture of a kudu captioned “Kudu” will be removed. Instead, add a fun fact, ask a question, or share an insight e.g., “Did you know a kudu can leap a 3-metre fence from a standing start?” Let’s create content that teaches and inspires everyone.

Include essential information

When sharing a photo, include the common name and if possible, the scientific name of the animal, tree, flower, bird, etc., along with the location. Common name and location are mandatory.

Image quality

Photos don’t need to be professional, but they must be clear enough for proper identification. Sound clips are always welcome, and videos are highly encouraged.

Respectful behaviour

No rude, abusive, belittling, or demeaning behaviour will be tolerated. We are here to uplift, not undermine. Offending members will be removed and blocked immediately.
NO political or racist material and ensure your content aligns with the group’s theme.

Respect everyone’s privacy

This group relies on trust. Sensitive or personal discussions stay within the group.

NO-Kill Community

OutRoamers do not support harming any creature, even as a joke.
Comments like “burn the house down to kill the spider” are not humorous here. Such comments will be removed, and offenders will receive a single warning.

No Medical Advice

We love wild stories, but this isn’t a medical page. If someone asks for medical advice, please refer them immediately to the nearest hospital. Let the medical professionals handle the bites; we’ll stick to celebrating nature safely!

NO unauthorised advertising

Members may not advertise or promote competing or non-approved groups, individuals, or companies. Please immediately report such behaviour. Such posts and the member will be removed.
Only OutRoamer-Friendly Establishments, Tour Operators, and OutRoamer Experts may post pre-approved promotional content.

What We Expect From an OutRoamer Expert

Be present (but no pressure!)

Life gets wild, sometimes literally. You’re not expected to drop everything, but please aim to respond to tagged questions within 6 hours. Your expertise matters here.

Engage with curiosity

Guide OutRoamers, challenge them, and inspire deeper thinking. Don’t just give answers, explain the “why.”
Example: “This is a Striped Kingfisher because of the streaked head and chest, and the classic black/grey upper mandible with the lower red.” Think of yourself as a friendly field guide with superpowers.

Stay calm, kind, and unshakably classy

Experts learn too

Follow all site rules

Share your adventures with us

Support the tribe

One field, one expert (mostly)

Maintain a polite and friendly demeanour. Don’t let anyone bait you, some people just hate being wrong. Handle it with finesse.
If someone becomes rude or disrespectful, report it so we can swoop in like a disgruntled Honey Badger.

No one knows everything, not even experts. If someone proves you wrong, accept it with grace. This is a learning community, not an ego arena. OutRoamers who claim to know everything shouldn’t be on this group… unless they’re experts, and even then, kindness is mandatory.

Rules evolve, just like nature. Stay updated and aligned.

Tell us about your courses, walks, talks, and wild adventures so we can keep OutRoamers informed and shine a spotlight on your work via our social media and website www.outroamer.com.
Please do not post advertising directly to the group without prior approval. We’ll review and approve, or help fine-tune it, as quickly as possible.

Share OutRoamer with your audience, and we’ll happily promote who you are and what you offer. It’s a mutually beneficial ecosystem, minus the food chain drama.

We aim for one expert per field, unless additional experts are non-competing. For instance, we won’t have two snake experts advertising the same type of courses.
